Have you sent in your reservation for the retreat at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, Iowa on September 12? The deadline is approaching! Invite a friend and include some men! Get a group together! You don’t want to miss this time of warm Christian fellowship and spiritual renewal. Kendra Smiley, featured speaker at this retreat hosted by Bible League International Volunteers, is coming to share her wit and wisdom on living life intentionally. All are encouraged to come and stay for the evening dinner and concert with the Valley Male Chorus. This chorus presents every concert with the hope that each listener is encouraged and uplifted by God’s love and grace. The banquet and evening concert are open to all. You do not need to attend the retreat to come for the evening, but reservations are needed. Contact Jennet Mollema for costs and more details.
CAMP ELK RUN 2017 International Cadet Camporee is taking place Wednesday July 12-Wednesday, July 19. This Camporee is being hosted by the Councils of Sioux Valley, Three Rivers, and Golden Plains of South Dakota, Minnesota and NW Iowa. We have been planning this event since 2012. The Camporee was hosted once before in 1981 at Custer State Park. At this year’s Camporee we have just over 1000 Cadets, Jr.Counselors, and Counselors attending. We will have just over 200 staff on hand putting the camp on. Sunday we will have worship service which is open to families and public to attend. We expect an additional 600-1000 to be on site. The exact location is Cooper Ranch Game Production Area owned by the South Dakota Game Fish & Park. This is Northwest of Custer around 30 miles in the middle of nowhere. All the things needed to put on the camp will need to be hauled in including water. The boys build tents out of 12 foot poles, 30x40 piece of plastic and twine. All meals are cooked at your campsite. Activities include archery, marksmanship, geocache, hike Harney Peak Outlook, Sylvan Lake, Mt Rushmore, camp craft, achievement games, and service project. We have morning and event watch including devotion, live praise and worship music, evening entertainment. God has been at work since our headquarters first approached us asking us to host this event, to showing us the location at our very first stop on the day we were looking for sites, to leading us to many generous business and people for donations, and more. And we know He will show His glory at this event when the boys show up. Set has already begun on Saturday the 6th. We anticipate staff will be there till the 21st for cleanup. We ask for your prayers for the boys who will be attending, the jr counselors and counselors who will be leading, and the staff putting on the event. Check out updates on the website www.campelkrun.com and http://counselors.calvinistcadets.org/camp-elk-run-live/ for photos and videos while the event is going on. Praise God from whom all Blessings Flow! Thanks for all your support! In Christ, Steve Van Heerde –Host Committee Chairman
Thank you for your support for our family and Lost Timber’s ministry. We are so grateful that God has brought us here and allowed us to serve him through camp ministry. We are also grateful for the body of Christ - like you - that support us in this calling. We are so excited for this summer’s camps and we would love your continued prayers that God would be glorified this summer and that his kingdom would expand. - Aaron and Emily Ahlquist
Many elements must align for a ministry like the Luke Society to succeed. A major part of that is the generosity and financial gifts like the one your congregation recently provided. We want to thank the people of the Chandler Christian Reformed Church for your support, and we ask that you keep our ministry in your prayers as we support the Spirit’s work of physical and spiritual healing in our broken world.
July 30 - Congregational Fellowship Breakfast.
Aug.11 - We will be attending Cornerstone Prison Church Worship Service.
