    We remember all of our members who reside at area care facilities. Chris Sankey who resides at Edgebrook Care Center,

 Dick Talsma who resides at Edgebrook’s Assisted Living and Gert Krosschell who resides at Edgebrook Apartments.

     Our sympathies to the Van Dam, Vander Schaaf, and Talsma families in the death of Donna Van Dam on Thursday.  The Lord is our

 refuge and our strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

   Today, we have the joy of witnessing the installation of faithful men to the office of elder and deacon.  Bruce Kreun and Rev. Harold Westra
 will be installed as elders, and Dale Kruse and Rich Vander Ziel will be installed as deacons.  We also want to thank retiring elders
 Cal Tinklenberg and Al Vis and deacons Al Van Dam and Keith  Westra for serving for the past three years. Please uphold these  leaders in
 your prayers and give them a word of encouragement. Tonight, we welcome Barry Miedema to our pulpit as he leads our evening service.
    Due to an increase in the number of landline phones being disconnected and answering machines not being checked, it has become very
 difficult for the chairman of our work groups to connect with their group when needs arise. If you have canceled your landline or think you
 might, please give us your updated phone number so we can better serve the members of our congregation. The new lists will be printed next
 week. A copy of the current work group list is by the kitchen window. You can make updates on it there or you can text your updated
 phone information to Brenda Kruse at 507-220-1886.
     From the Deacons: The deacons have organized themselves for the coming year: Rich Vander Ziel--President;
 Chad Miersma--Secretary, Building and Grounds & Building Fund Treasurer; Dale Kruse--General Fund Treasurer;
 Roger Talsma--Special Offering Treasurer; Clyde Kreun--Benevolent Treasurer
    Community game night is back on again for January and February at the Christian School gym.  Dodgeball, soccer, and other
 "all age games" will start at 7:00 pm and end at 8:30.  It will take place on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday evenings of the month, starting on the
 9th, hope to see you there!
    Coffee Break Ministry invites all women of the community to a Gospel Comparative Bible Study.  We will study Passion Week from
 Jesus Triumphal Entry to Judas’ betrayal of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane using all four gospels.  Nursery and Bible Story Hour
 (ages 3 –Kindergarten) will be provided.  The study begins on January 9 at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall at First CRC.  Feel free to pick
 up copies of the study which are located in the southwest corner of the kitchen at First CRC. Contact Thea Nykamp (507-227-9513) or
 Beth Fennema (507-215-7140) if you have questions.
    On Monday, January 14, our church will be showing the movie "LIKE ARROWS," FamilyLife's first feature film that shows the challenges
 & Joys that come with raising children through a journey that unfolds over 50 years. It is an EXCELLENT movie for everyone to watch! Come
 and see this film & invite your friends! Parenting is an exciting adventure, full of twists and turns, but sometimes it feels like you don't know
 where yours headed, or you're just making it up as you go along. The Bible speaks to issues of the heart, and as we will explore in this Bible study,
 it will equip and transform the hearts of both parents & children. The Movie Like Arrows will be a kickoff for an 8 week Bible Study,
 called "The Art of Parenting.
" The Bible study will be held in our church on Monday Nights starting at 6:30 pm on January 21st.
 People expecting to be parents, current parents, and parents of grown children are all encouraged to attend! This is a great Bible Study for
 everyone as we aim our children's heart toward God! For more info, please contact Jon or Kelsey Schmidt 507.227.8570.

I would like to give a big Thank You to the congregation for the generosity of a new office chair for pastor appreciation month, as  well as
 new paint, window coverings, and wall decorations for the church study.  Feel free to stop by to see the newly decorated study or to enjoy a cup
 of coffee.
